Clinic of the Future
This is an ongoing project that aims to put the patient narrative at the center of the clinic experience. As the pain communication tool kit was developed in the project Re-Imagining Pain Communication, it was evident that the whole clinic experience needed to be re-imagined.
This project offers a new approach to services offered in a clinic.
“ The whole clinic experience makes me feel like a number.
We need a new way.”

Designing a new service
The Clinic of the Future proposes a new role called the Story Collector. The Story Collector is the first person that people would see when entering the medical realm regarding their pain. Using the tool kit, the Story Collector would collect and document the patient’s narrative over time.
The information gathered from the tool kit can then become the center piece for a collective conversation between medical professionals and caregivers. The hope is that a person’s whole narrative can be considered before opioids are prescribed or assumptions are made about what the person needs to help them manage their pain. Using the tool kit to map a person’s pain narrative can reveal new pathways to help a person.
